Construction, Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) and Aspen Medical will attend a mediation on Monday to avert a looming strike.
About 200 union members at Lautoka and Ba Aspen are scheduled to on strike from next Thursday.
The dispute between the two over the settlement on the Union’s Log of Claims has been referred to the Fiji Mediation Centre by the Arbitration Court.
“Hopefully, Aspen Medical’s position changes because the last two mediations in the recent past had failed, and Aspen kept passing the buck on the Government,” said CETWUF National Secretary John Paul.
The mediation will be held on Monday in Suva.
“Aspen Medical has not been willing to negotiate with us in good faith so far and two mediations in the recent past failed because of their stance to deny workers just pay and improved working conditions.”
“If the mediation scheduled in Suva on 3rd of February 2025 is unsuccessful, then the strike will go ahead as scheduled at 7am on 6th of February 2025.”
“CETWUF has had enough of this waiting game.”
