School committees have found it difficult to maintain their compounds and infrastructure over the past few years because of their inability to raise funds, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
While opening the Road King Farm Agro-Processing and Export facility on Taveuni, Mr Rabuka said this was a challenge most school committees faced.
“These are things school committees should be allowed to raise funds for,” he said.
The Prime Minister said maintaining school compounds and infrastructure were not catered for in their budgets.
“I received calls from committees on Taveuni raising their concerns about the compounds,” Mr Rabuka said.
“The grass was long, but they did not have any money to cut it.”
The Prime Minister said he had to give money for brush cutters, fuel, and food.
