THE Labasa women’s football team was crowned the new champions of the 2019 Inter District Championship defeating defending champions Ba 2-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.
“We came with a mission and nothing was going to stop us from taking the cup with us,” said Labasa coach Arthur Simmons.
Fiji football player Sofi Diyalowai scored first in the 31st minute getting past defenders following a through pass from Jotivini Tabua and getting it past Ba goalkeeper Ateca Tuwai.
Both teams went to the break with Labasa leading 1-0 at the half.
Labasa’s Stella Naivalulevu put the nail in the coffin in the 52nd minute from inside the Ba box chipping it over Tuwai for the final goal and match winner ending the game at 2-0.
Ba’s Sonali Rao was red-carded in the 54th minute for throwing a punch on Labasa’s Shayal Sindhika.
