The Digicel Fiji Kulas dream of playing at the 2024 Olympic games in Paris was shattered yesterday.

The side was thrashed 7-1 by New Zealand during the women’s Olympic Football Tournament Oceania Qualifier in Apia, Samoa.

Fiji – who finished second in their group following a 3-1 defeat to the Solomon Islands earlier in the week – were hoping to spring an upset but five down in the first half was too much for a comeback.

Grace Jale scored hat-trick and doubles to Indiah Paige Riley and Jacqueline Hand was enough for New Zealand to take a commanding lead before Cema Nasau pulled one back for Fiji in added extra time.

The other semi-final match was won by the Solomon Islands which spoiled the party for hosts Samoa in tightly contested 2-0 score.

The final between the New Zealand and the Solomon Islands will be held on Monday.
