Former Netball Fiji chief executive, Vivian Koster, has officially confirmed her departure from the organisation and clarified that she did not seek re-appointment to the position.

The absence of a CEO has hindered Netball Fiji’s ability to provide details on the proposed Pacific Series with New Zealand next year.

Koster confirmed she chose to explore a different path after stepping down as CEO after RNZ ran an article that “Netball Fiji has been unable to confirm details of a proposed Pacific Series with New Zealand because they do not have a chief executive officer in place yet”.

The decision to cancel the Pacific Series was driven by the need to focus on adequate preparation, including the recruitment of a new coach and ensuring the readiness of the players.

RNZ National had reported there is ongoing discussions between Netball Fiji and Netball New Zealand about the series.

This necessitated a delay in scheduling the series as the organisation waited for the new coach to be appointed.

Even during Koster’s tenure as CEO, the Pacific Series had to be cancelled because of ongoing negotiations with Netball New Zealand that did not come to fruition.

“While I was still the CEO we cancelled the series, we were in negotiations with Netball New Zealand, but we realise it didn’t work out for us to have a series in January, and February because we have the PacificAus Sports Series, so there were too many things happening,” said Koster.

Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki is overseas and could not be reached for comment.
