CYCLING Fiji will be hosting a 100 kilometres race that will start in Korovou, Tailevu next month.
Cycling Fiji hosted the Fiji Games cycling competition in Nasese, Suva where Macuata won in the men’s grade and Lau won in the women’s grade.
“We are really pleased with the turnout for both the men and the women’s events. For some of them it was their first time taking part in such a competition,” Cycling Fiji president Peter Sinclair said.
“The men’s event was very interesting from my point of view because the lead changed a number of times, we had a couple of mechanical issues which also helped change the lead and it got quite exciting from there.
“It was great to see Petero Manua come through as the winner for the men’s and Timaima Takape for the women’s.”
Sinclair said Cycling Fiji was focusing on Jone Takape who had good potential in cycling.
“At this stage, cyclists are focusing on Jone Takape who came in fifth place due to mechanical problems but he is one of our very strong cyclists who has really developed over the past couple of years. We want Jone to continue with the sport because he really does have great potential,” he said.
“Cycling Fiji is now looking forward to their next event which is the Tour of Fiji next month,” said Sinclair.
“It will start in Korovou, then to Rakiraki, then on the second day we will go through to Lautoka. So the distance for each day will be around 100km,” he said.
“From Lautoka, we will travel by bus to Sigatoka and stay overnight there and then race up the Sigatoka Valley. The combined times on each day will be used to compile the overall race winner.
“We will have around 50 participants with some international participants as well as our local riders.”
The race will be from October 7-9.
