FIJI Airways Fiji men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau has warned that every match on the World SVNS Series is a tough contest, stressing that no team can be taken lightly in the modern game.
Kolinisau made the comments following Fiji’s hard-fought 22–19 victory over Great Britain in their opening match of the Singapore 7s yesterday. Viwa Naduvalo scored a hatrick of tries to secure the win.
He said the gap between teams has closed significantly compared to previous years, meaning success now depends on consistency, discipline and execution rather than reputation.
Kolinisau believes there is no room for complacency, noting that matches can quickly slip away if focus is lost at any stage.
“You can be leading by 15-20 points in the first spell but if you lose concentration in the second half the match is gone. I am proud of the performance of the boys as they held their ground to secure this win,” Kolinisau said.
The coach added that Fiji’s remaining pool matches would pose further challenges, particularly against sides with everything to play for.
“Spain, they’re very unpredictable. After losing to South Africa, it is do-or-die for them against us and I know they will give their all. And South Africa is never easy to play against. So we will do our best and let the result take care of itself.”
Meanwhile, the Singapore 7s enters its final day today. The women’s semi-finals begin at 6.08pm, followed by the men’s semi-finals at 6.52pm. The women’s final is scheduled for 11.05pm, while the men’s final kicks off at 11.41pm.
