THE election of key executives of the Social Democratic Liberal Party yesterday showed the great emphasis placed on representation from the three confederacies — Kubuna, Burebasaga and Tovata.

This was the comment made by Na Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa.

She said the election of SODELPA president — Ratu Epenisa Cakobau and vice presidents — herself, Rakiraki business mogul George Shiu Raj and Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu — clearly showed this.

“I think that showed with the appointment of Ratu Epenisa from Bau which is Kubuna, myself from Burebasaga and Tui Cakau from Tovata,” she said.

“For our people that is of great comfort and faith on the traditions and cultures of our country.”

Ro Teimumu said they had a huge role to play in terms of bringing the Fijian people together.

“Today, there was emphasis on working together and going forward today for the 2022 general elections.”

Ro Teimumu said the calibre of people who were present at the meeting showed great promise for the future of SODELPA.

“Some couldn’t come because of the restrictions and they were very disappointed but we had a very high calibre of people and this gives me great faith in the youth.

“We have people here who will be considered for the general elections come 2022.”

Ro Teimumu said she would not be contesting in the 2022 polls.

“I only came back in because the chiefs of Rewa had asked me to come back in but I have made it clear to them that this is my last term.”
