Fashion industry outcomes need to be sustainable for both the planet and the economy, and industry stakeholders need to understand this, the managing director of Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) Ellen Whippy-Knight said as she reflected on 15 years of FJFW’s existence.
“Sustainability will preserve the cultural heritage designers express in making fashion wear,” she said at the FJFW media launch on Tuesday night.
“Which in turn secures our future through earning our place in the global fashion industry.”
She said FJFW was still able to deliver on its objectives to market Fiji fashion wear to the world by remaining “relevant and listening to the needs of its community”.
With the lifting of COVID-related restrictions, she said they would prioritise the physical show and maintain a huge digital component in the backgrounds on the screen.
“I really encourage people to come and watch the development of our local designers. Come and support local talents and have a good time because this is a brand new look event.”
Corporate sponsorship and support has enabled FJFW’s growth despite ongoing global challenges. FJFW also partnered with the tourism industry to deliver a completely virtual show, resulting in an online widening market reach for Fiji fashion designers.
The FJFW 2022 show will take place at the Vodafone Arena from May 21-28.
Tickets are on sale via the online ticketing facility with the Grand Pacific Hotel being the main ticketing centre.
