Amid swirling controversy and scrutiny over the Commissioner of Inquiry (COI) report, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small & Medium Enterprises & Communications Manoa Kamikamica has doubled down on his support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, declaring the party remains firmly united and focused on the job at hand.

Fresh from a Cabinet meeting yesterday, Mr Kamikamica dismissed speculation of division, pointing instead to a string of development wins and insisting the government was pressing forward despite inherited challenges and political noise.

“As far as we’re concerned, the whole party is behind the prime minister,” Mr Kamikamica said.

“We just came out of Cabinet and made some very good decisions — things move on.”

While Kamikamica declined to comment on specific details regarding the outcome of the Cabinet meeting, he emphasised the Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation through economic and digital development.

“We’ve launched a National Digital Strategy, brought Google and Starlink into Fiji, and there are two hotels under construction,” he said.

“There’s a lot of significant investment happening, and that shouldn’t be overlooked.”

He also pointed out the challenges the Government inherited, and the progress made since taking office.

“But I think Fiji doesn’t realise how much hard work that’s been going.

“We’ve been building from a negative base because the country has been mismanaged for 16 years and it’s taken time to get things going, but the work continues.”

When asked about the recent termination of Barbra Malimali, he maintained his previous stance of support.

“Absolutely,” he responded. “The support for the prime minister, as far as I’m aware, is unequivocal.

“There’s been a lot of talk about what is in the COI report, but I have no comments on that.

“We are focused on doing the work for the country.”
