THE Fiji Primary Schools Kaji Rugby Union needs more money to cater for the 19 districts that will be competing in the Rewa Galaxy Kaji-sponsored tournament on the August 14-17.
President George Seruiratu thanked Rewa Galaxy for giving them $120,000 to organise the tournament, but they need more money.
“The districts have their own budget and for us the sponsors money we get will help each district with their transportation and the billeting,” Seruiratu said
“For example for teams coming from outer islands, they pay their way to the mainland and we pay their return fare. That’s where the money goes and it applies to all districts.
“For accommodation, most teams pay $50 for a room and because they bring in a lot of teams we help them pay the extra rooms so for those nights we’re looking at an extra $1200. To do that the sponsorship money is not enough.
“As much as we want to help, we can’t afford to do all that and teachers have to do their fundraising so that they are able to get their teams to Suva,
“We hope to get in more money.”
Seruiratu stated with confirmation of sponsorship on Wednesday they were able to host the game.
“Last week we didn’t have anyone on board to help us host the tournament and I told the committee members if we don’t have any sponsorship this week then we have to call off the tournament but luckily we had our last year’s sponsors coming back on board to help us.”
The organisers have managed to secure the ANZ Stadium to host the games and also confirm the dates for the competition.
He said they would also be using the Veiuto Primary School and Suva Grammar School grounds in the tournament.
“There will be more than 100 teams participating from the U9 to U14 so we’re looking forward for more corporate and businesses to help us support our children because this is their passion, they love rugby and we need to help them achieve their dreams.”
