Music training helps develop good memorisation, increases coordination, improves fine-tuned auditory skills and emotional development.
Sixty-six students from the Valelevu Youth Training Centre successfully completed their Certificate Level 4 in Music Performance last month and graduated from the centre.
Under the centre’s National Youth Band Program, the students were trained in musical theories and practical musical applications.
The centre, according to the Ministry of Youth and Sports provides second chance opportunity to students who have dropped out of formal education but have musical interests and talents.
Chief guest at the graduation was the Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro.
Mr Radrodro commended the graduates for their perseverance and dedication, urging them to embrace their musical talents and contribute to Fiji’s growth.
He highlighted the Coalition Government’s commitment to creating alternative pathways for education and employment, emphasising the vital role of music in Fiji’s economy and culture.
During his address, Mr Radrodro also celebrated the success of past graduates who have excelled in national institutions, events and the entertainment industry.
He inspired the graduates to pursue their dreams with passion, reminding them of the power of collaboration, discipline and faith in shaping their futures.
During the event the graduates had an opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned by playing a few tunes for their guests. Some students were also recognised for their hard work and perseverance by being awarded.
