Coping with daily responsibilities at home and school are things that Manitisa Lolohea Valu is familiar with.

Valu who was awarded the dux prize last year at Nabua Secondary School states that being the only young man at home with six sisters has its fair shares of responsibilities.

The only way Valu handles his duties is with God’s steadfast love and guidance.

When awarded the dux prize, Valu thanked the Lord Jesus Christ for being a guiding light in his academic journey.

He also took the time to thank his mum and dad for being there every step of the way – sharing the joy and overcoming challenges together as a family.

He said it was through hard work that he was awarded the main academic prize for Year 13.

“When you work hard, you will achieve your goals and it’s also important to believe in yourself,” he said.

“When you also put God first, everything will be added onto you.

He said he worked extremely hard, especially at home.

“Before I go with my friends, I always make sure that I’ve done my schoolwork or chores and when I leave home to go to school, I remind myself that I’m here for a purpose and that I have to support my family in the future.

“I tell myself that what I do now I will reap later, especially being able to support mum and dad when they get old.”

As he wraps up his secondary school journey, he encourages his peers to give 100 per cent when they aim for something and to always believe in themselves.

Valu was among other Year 13 students that graduated from the school last year.
