ROUND five of the Subrails Marama Championship produced several high-scoring encounters, with Nadi and Macuata sharing the spoils in a 22-all draw.
Nadroga secured a 33-24 victory over Nasinu, Tailevu also recorded a 41-15 victory over Naitasiri, while Suva dominated Rewa 47-5. Namosi completed the round with a 51-34 win over Ba.
Kadavu women turned adversity into determination as they powered to a convincing 41-15 victory over Lautoka in Round Five of the Subrails Marama Championship at Churchill Park.
Kadavu coach Etuate Nauro said the team’s preparation was far from ideal, with persistent rain, limited access to suitable training grounds and the challenge of travelling from Kadavu to Lautoka.
Despite those setbacks, Nauro said the players remained committed and delivered a strong performance.
“We came through after a lot of challenges and struggles back in Kadavu. The weather was rainy, we couldn’t find a good ground to train on, also considering the travelling time to Lautoka.”
“We thank the girls for all the effort they have shown us,” Nauro said.
Kadavu made a strong start and dominated the opening half with powerful attacking and defensive play. Meredani Qoro scored two tries, while Sereima Rauqe and Salanieta Navatasi scored one try each. Matelita Nunia converted two tries as Kadavu went into halftime with a commanding 24-0 lead.
Kadavu continued to control possession and attack in the second half, scoring three more tries through Vatiseva Cavuru, Matelita Nunia and Ulumila Likubai. Livia Senibulileka converted one try.
Lautoka regrouped after halftime and managed to score three tries through Lotaini Loalala, Ruth Tinai and Camari Tora. However, Kadavu maintained their composure to secure an impressive 41-15 victory.
