KADAVU produced a courageous performance to upset Lautoka 13-12 in a thrilling Skipper Cup Round Five match at Churchill Park on Saturday night.
Kadavu showed determination, courage and strength from the opening whistle, putting up a fierce attacking and defensive effort to frustrate the home side.
Nacanieli Ratu scored Kadavu’s only try, while fullback Apisai Sokini converted and added a crucial penalty. Lautoka responded with a try through Nemani Camainakelo, but Kadavu held firm to take a 10-5 lead into halftime.
The second half saw pressure mount on both sides as Lautoka fought desperately to turn the match around.
Lautoka scored its second try through Eroni Leone, with Netava Bosenawai adding the conversion to put the home side in front.
However, Kadavu refused to surrender, with Sokini keeping his composure to slot a crucial penalty that ultimately secured the 13-12 victory.
Kadavu vice-captain Vaione Tegu said the team drew strength from their faith when Lautoka mounted its comeback.
“In that second half when Lautoka was fighting back, we reminded ourselves with this Bible verse, John 3:6. I kept telling the boys to be strong and keep pushing forward,” Tegu said.
“It was a good game and we thank Lautoka for a good game.”
