KADAVU women overcame a difficult preparation in Kadavu to record a convincing 41-15 victory over Lautoka in the Subrails Marama Cup at Churchill Park yesterday.
Coach Etuate Nauro said the team had faced several challenges in the lead-up to the match, particularly the wet weather and lack of suitable grounds to train on in Kadavu.
“We came through after a lot of challenges and struggles back in Kadavu. The weather was rainy and we could not find a good ground to train on, also considering the travelling time to Lautoka,” Nauro said.
He said despite the difficulties, the players remained committed and their efforts were rewarded with a strong performance on the field.
“We thank the girls for all the effort they have shown us,” he said.
Kadavu dominated from the opening whistle, producing strong attacking and defensive plays to take a commanding 24-0 lead at halftime.
Meredani Qoro scored twice, while Sereima Rauqe and Salanieta Navatasi added a try each. Matelita Nunia converted two tries.
Kadavu continued their dominance after the break, maintaining possession and pressure to score three more tries through Vatiseva Cavuru, Nunia and Ulumila Likubai, with Livia Senibulileka adding a conversion.
Lautoka regrouped in the second half and showed more attacking intent, scoring three tries through Lotaini Loalala, Ruth Tinai and Camari Tora.
However, Kadavu held firm to secure the 41-15 victory.
