ETO was named by the people of Fiji, having served and protected the people and the country of Fiji well by protecting the borders and keeping the community safe.
Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, Customs Officer Sakiusa Lasaqa said this during the funeral service for K9 Eto who was brought over from the New Zealand Police Dog Academy in 2015 and was based at the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, a joint K9 operational team consisting of handlers from the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Revenue and Customs Service operating out of Nadi and Nasese.
“We lay him now to rest and thank him for his service to Fiji,” Mr Lasaqa stressed on behalf of K9 Eto’s handler who is away overseas.
The funeral was attended by the members of the Fiji Police Force, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, New Zealand Police, Australian Police who gathered at the Fiji Detector Dog Unit Complex in Nasese last week to farewell a fellow law enforcement officer who died following a short illness.
K9 Eto had assisted with the detection of narcotics valued at millions of dollars and large sums of undeclared currencies.
“As a team we had immediate success on the road. These arrests and finds would not have been possible without you, you made me look like a superstar at times; truth be told you made me shine”.
“You made me the K9 handler that I am today, and never met a challenge that you didn’t rise to the occasion, you were a great partner and I am forever thankful for you”.
