The review report on Fiji’s electoral laws has been concluded and handed to government.
The Fiji Law Reform Commission (FLRC) officially handed over its Final Report and Recommendations on electoral reforms to the Acting Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga.
The report was presented by retired Justice Daniel Fatiaki, who led the review as Chairperson of the Electoral Law Reform Commission, alongside part-time Commissioners Professor Wadan Narsey, Deidre Brookes, and Seini Nabou.
The review, approved by Cabinet on February 8, 2025, with Terms of Reference issued on the same date, focused on reforming key electoral legislation, including the Electoral Act 2014, the Electoral (Registration of Voters) Act 2012, and the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding & Disclosures) Act 2013.
A public consultation process concluded on June 30.
The final report includes draft bills currently being finalized, represents a collaborative effort between the Electoral Commission, the Fiji Elections Office, the Ministry of Justice, and the FLRC.
The report is now under consideration by the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Ministry for Justice and is expected to go to Cabinet soon.
