A judgment is expected to be delivered today in a court case involving former Prime Minister Frank  Bainimarama and former Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho.

The two men are facing charges relating to events that took place between May and August 2021, where they are alleged to have interfered in a disciplinary process within the Fiji Police Force.

Mr Bainimarama is charged with making unwarranted demands to then Acting Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, allegedly directing him to dismiss two police officers, Sergeant Penieli Ratei and Constable Tomasi Naulu, and threatening his resignation if he failed to comply.

Mr Qiliho is charged with two counts of abuse of office for reviewing and overturning the disciplinary actions taken against the same officers.

The two men have previously faced convictions in a separate abuse of office case involving the University of the South Pacific.

Mr Bainimarama was released earlier this year after serving part of a one-year sentence, while Mr Qiliho was discharged from prison earlier this week after serving time for his role.

The case will be called before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe in Courtroom 3 in Suva this morning.
