Job opportunities

A report (FT 17/2) says that the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) will spend about $4 million to recruit about 17,000 polling workers for the 2018 General Election.

That’s a lot of opportunities for our people for the duration of the elections.

Let’s say that the people who will benefit per family is four. So 4 x 17, 000 = 68,000 (this is a rough estimate)

Looking at the exercise as a whole, money earned will go back to society via purchases and payments that will be made by the people.

And the country benefits as a whole.

But all in all, it will give some people a chance to earn something.

Here I hope that the FEO will only recruit those who are unemployed. Please consider this because to employ the employed would be kind of not fair because the person will be earning two pay packets and take up what would be an opportunity for an unemployed person.

There could be some positions that will need people with expertise and they could come from within the civil service.

Anyway, I know the recruitment process will ensure that the best people will be selected.

And I wish the elections office all the best.
