One of those who played a key part in the 2000 coup, Jo Nata has said the Truth and Reconciliation Commission should be supported.
He said reconciliation must be given a chance.
“Although I had expressed my total support to the minister responsible for the preparatory work on the TRC, I had serious reservations during the Bill stages,” he said.
“I felt it was too slanted against one particular community.”
“I kept my reservations to myself as I did not want unnecessary distractions.”
“I contemplated not participating.”
Mr Nata adds but “after sober considerations, I felt I owe to the people of Fiji.”
“Among my concerns, was that, in the Bill which later became, one particular group was made out to be the aggressor while another was the victim.”
“We have all been victims and we have all been aggressors. Of importance is that we should tell our stories truthfully and share our worldviews.”
Mr Nata said “we must give peace a chance.”
