Jasmine Daunakamakama is breaking barriers as the first female boxer from Fiji to compete at an Olympics qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 19-year-old from Lomanikoro, Bau, Tailevu with maternal links to Samoa, will be out to show her talent as she competes with seasoned boxers fighting for the top four spots in 57kg division.

Daunakamakama has been putting in the work, both mentally and physically, to prepare for this momentous opportunity.

“This is really a great opportunity for me, training has been going well, managed to get some tough sparring sessions that has really challenged my mental and physical abilities,” said Daunakamaka.

She has been pushing herself through tough sparring sessions to refine her technique, strengthen her mental skills, and become a more aggressive fighter.

With unwavering support from her parents, friends, and family, Daunakamakama is determined to give it her all at the qualifier.

“The support has been amazing; my parents have been supporting me since day one along with my friends and family.

“I have my personal goal, which is to win a spot to the Olympics. My parents have always encouraged me to aim high and believe in myself and my abilities.

“I know it’s going to be quite challenging given that there will be well seasoned boxers fighting for the top four spots in my weight category, but if there is a will there is a way.

“I want to thank God for blessing me with the abundant opportunities, and to coach Cam Todd for pushing me to reach my full potential, coach Nemani and the management who have made this trip possible.”

The Olympic qualifier will be held on May 23 to June 3 in Bangkok.
