Jail for house raider

A LABASA resident convicted of raiding a house before burning it has been sentenced to three years and eight months with a non-parole period of one-year and eight months.

Ifereimi Tauva Junior broke into the home of one Mahendra Kumar and stole assorted items which included one minibar Modyl Fridge and one 43-inch flat screen

He also stole one battery charger, four cans of fish, four cans of tuna, two packs of chicken soup pack and four pieces of lamb neck. The owner of the house was not at home at the time.

After he moved the stolen items to another location, he returned to the house and created a contraption by using a pipe from the gas cylinder, a mosquito coil, and a nail thread, where a fire broke out and burnt the entire house down.

“Crimes of this nature, targeting residential properties, undoubtedly impact the entire community,” Justice Thushara Rajasinghe stated in his sentencing deliverted on Wednesday.
