AS the Ministry of Health and Medical Services anticipates the opening of the multi-million dollar Ba Hospital, discussions have begun on what would be done with the Ba Mission Hospital and the Nailaga Nursing Station.

The two smaller health facilities are located close to the new Ba Hospital.

According to Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, the two facilities were very old. “We also need to start thinking about what we are going to do with the other facilities,” he said.

“What we will do with the Ba Mission Hospital which is a very old facility and so we will have to be strategic about it.

“We are in discussion with our senior officials about it because if we have an old facility that has been running for very long and it is incurring a lot of cost for us then we should ask ourselves do we need to continue with it or we just be very efficient and utilise what we can utilise in terms of resources.

“That is the other challenge that we are looking at with Ba. It also includes the Nailaga Nursing Station. It has been around for a very long time. ”

After touring the new Ba Hospital, Dr Waqainabete said he was impressed with the facility. “It is an amazing facility.

“Government has put aside provisions within the budget over the last one and a half year to make sure that this facility was completed. “It’s quite state of the art and most probably the best hospital in the country right now.

“We look forward to the public private partnership that will be a game changer for Fiji.”
