Israel has announced plans to open an embassy in Fiji in 2026, following Fiji’s decision to establish its diplomatic mission in Jerusalem earlier this year.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said he had informed Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka of the decision, saying it would further strengthen ties between the two countries.

“I informed the Prime Minister of my decision to open an Israeli embassy in Fiji in 2026,” Saar said on X.

“Opening the new embassy will tighten the relations between the two countries and strengthen Israel’s presence in the Pacific region.”

Fiji inaugurated its mission in Jerusalem in September, with Prime Minister Rabuka describing the move as a significant step in Fiji’s diplomatic engagement.

The decision placed Fiji among a small group of countries with embassies in the city, including the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Paraguay and Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea was the only other Asia-Pacific country to open an embassy in Jerusalem before Fiji, doing so in September 2023.
