The investigation of Abdul Khan, the former CEO of the Fiji Sugar Corporation, is still active.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) said details could not be divulged because it was an ongoing investigation.
“FICAC wishes to reiterate that the ongoing investigations against the former FSC CEO, Abdul Khan were consequent to an intelligence report received by FICAC from the Fiji Intelligence Unit and not from a complaint made by FSC,” a FICAC statement read.
“As it is an ongoing investigation, divulging any finer details of the case may jeopardise the outcome of the investigation.
“Therefore, in the best interest and to protect the integrity of the investigation, the commission will refrain from making any remarks publicly on the case until the conclusion of the case.
“Furthermore, the commission makes every effort to complete all cases within a suitable time frame.”
According to FICAC, some cases were complex in nature and therefore required a longer timeframe to obtain, review, analyse large volumes of documents and locate witnesses to verify facts surrounding the allegations.
Last year, Minister for Sugar Industry Charan Jeath Singh had publicly hit out at FICAC and said the commission was taking over three years to complete an investigation pertaining to abuse of office and corruption.
