Infrastructure project delivery has shown improvement over the past three financial years, despite ongoing challenges, Parliament has been told.
Responding to a question by Opposition MP Vijay Nath, Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau outlined the Ministry’s capital budget performance and project delivery rates.
Figures presented in Parliament show that in the 2022–2023 financial year, $344 million was approved, with 82 per cent of projects delivered on time. This improved significantly in 2023–2024, where $511 million was allocated and 98 per cent of projects were completed on schedule.
For the 2024–2025 financial year, $458 million was approved, with 90 per cent of projects delivered on time.
Mr Tuisawau acknowledged that some delays persist, attributing them to a range of external and procedural challenges.
“Those projects were not delivered on time was due to external and environmental factors, procurement and contracting delays, regulatory and approval delays and some design changes and scope variations,” he said.
The data reflects a broader effort by Government to improve infrastructure delivery while navigating operational constraints that continue to impact timelines and execution.
