Fiji’s average inflation rate increased to 2.9 percent in October 2026, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics today.

The figure represents the average change in consumer prices over the 12 months from November 2025 to October 2026, compared with the preceding 12-month period.

The Bureau also reported that consumer prices were 9 percent higher in October compared with the same month last year.

On a monthly basis, the All Items Consumer Price Index increased by 1.9 percent, rising from 117.6 in September to 119.8 in October.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded a 3.2 percent increase during the month, driven by higher prices for bread, cereals, fish, seafood, dairy products, cooking oils, fruits and vegetables.

Transport costs rose by 4.4 percent, with increases recorded in fuel, motor vehicles, airfares and sea transport.

Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels recorded a 1.1 percent increase, while communication costs rose by 0.4 percent.

However, health costs declined by 1.5 percent, reflecting lower prices for pharmaceutical products and dental services.

Clothing and footwear, recreation and culture, and miscellaneous goods and services also recorded marginal price reductions.

The Bureau cautioned that the CPI figures should be interpreted carefully because of a non-additivity issue affecting the relationship between individual category indexes and the overall index.

The issue is being investigated with assistance from external consultants, and the figures may be revised.

The next CPI report is scheduled for release on November 30, 2026.
