THE inciting mutiny charge against former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has been set down for trial on April 5, 2027.

They appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar in the High Court in Suva yesterday, when senior prosecutor Meli Vosawale said the State would not rely on the men’s caution interviews because they contained no admissions.

Instead, the prosecution will seek to prove its case through direct evidence, extracted phone records and expert evidence on data extracted from the accused men’s electronic devices.

Mr Bainimarama is accused of sending Viber messages to Brigadier General Manoa Gadai between January and July 2023 in an attempt to incite him to overthrow the authority of RFMF Commander Ro Jone Kalouniwai.

He and Mr Qiliho are also alleged to have attempted to incite several senior RFMF officers to unlawfully arrest and remove the commander during July 2023.

The matter was adjourned to November 24.
