334 applicants benefit from initiative

A total of 334 applicants have benefited from the Ministry of Housing’s First Home and First Land Grant initiative, receiving a total payout in excess of $5 million during the 2020-2021 financial year. Minister for Housing and Community Development Premila Kumar said the intention of increasing the initiative’s grant in this year’s budget was to revive the construction sector benefiting lot of Fijians.

2020 Water Medal of Excellence awards

Achieving excellence in any field of work demands passion, conviction and the insatiable desire for greatness and achievement. These were the sentiments of Fijian President Jioji Konrote during the 2020 Water Medal of Excellence awards night held at the FMF Gymnasium. The ceremony was held in honour of employees of the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) for their efforts in delivering the essential service to the public over the past years.

Designer uses premier fashion show to advocate on social issues

Local designer, Aisea Konrote will be using his premier fashion show to advocate social issues. Renowned designer, Mr Konrote has been in the local fashion industry for more than 15 years but his maiden show, called “It’s Raining Men” on Saturday next week will be an opportunity to highlight how men and women should be respected.

USP chancellor calls unity

The University of the South Pacific’s chancellor, called on the university’s council, governance and administration departments to put their differences aside and work together. Mr Aingimea said it was important that these departments within the university work together to create the rightful environment for its staff and students to excel in.

WEBC commends members

THE Women Entrepreneurs Business Council (WEBC) has commended its members for keeping their small and medium businesses operating in the face of tough economic times. WEBC chairwoman Eseta Nadakuitavuki challenged over 40 members that attended a peer-to-peer learning engagement in Suva yesterday to continue to strive for success, despite the challenges brought on by the global pandemic and natural disasters last year.

FPRA TC Yasa appeal raises $17,3000

FIJI Performing Rights Association managed to raise a sum of $17,300 during its TC Yasa Appeal in January this year. FPRA’s board of directors chairman Saimone Vuatalevu said the FPRA team would be leaving today for Nabouwalu for distribution of relief supplies to affected homes in the province.

Baber – A lot of talent in Fiji

Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber wants to build a culture whereby whenever the national team leaves our shores, players have the characteristics of controlling themselves on the field. According to Baber there was a lot of talent in the country who can get to the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series but there were other factors that needed to be considered. ”

Baber impressed

Fiji coach Gareth Baber was impressed with a few unknown teams that featured in the second leg of the Fiji Rugby Union Sevens Series in Nadi. Baber cited newcomers Bukuya and Wadigi Salvo as two examples. Wadigi Salvo from Lautoka reached the quarter-final of the cup competition after missing out in the first leg in Sigatoka last month. Baber said Bukuya went straight out at the first two teams that they played.

Police Blue wins second leg

Police Blue claimed back to back titles in the Fiji Rugby Union Sevens Series after winning the second leg at Prince Charles Park in Nadi last night. In an anticlimax Police Blue proved too strong for Police White winning in the final 26-7. However both the cup semi-finals proved to be exciting with the lawmen digging deep to record victories. Police Blue defeated Jerry Tuwai’s LAR Barbarians 26-14 while Police White scored at the death to beat Raiwasa Taveuni 22-15 after both teams were locked 15-all.

Uci crowned champs

Uci House were crowned the champions of the 2021 Adi Cakobau School inter-house meet at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday. They scooped 18 gold, 10 silver and 21 bronze medals. Uci (red house) also walked away with the sub junior grade award with four gold, four silver and three bronze medals and the junior grade with six gold, one silver and five bronzes medals.

Champion v Champion series headed for an exciting end

The Pillays Champion v Champion series is headed to an exciting end with a three-way option that will decide whether Suva or Labasa will be Fiji’s undisputed football champion. After both teams ended their first decider in a one all deadlock, Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said fans were in for an exciting finish. “We have a three-way option that will decide the final outcome tomorrow (today)
