SOFITEL Resort and Spa in Denarau bottled more than 48,200 litres of water at its in-house water bottling facility over the past 12 months.
The facility was commissioned in June last year, paving the way for the resort’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability in the tourism industry.
Resort environment and sustainability manager Ateca Waqavolau said since the facility’s launch on June 4, Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa had been setting a new standard for environmental sustainability in the industry.
“This initiative is more than just reducing plastic. It is about setting a new standard for responsible tourism in Fiji,” she said.
“Over the past year we’ve seen incredible support from our guests and team members, and we’re proud to be making a tangible difference, one refill at a time.”
According to the resort, the facility has played a significant role in eliminating single-use plastic bottles across the resort.
“Guests and conference attendees now enjoy fresh, filtered drinking water in reusable glass bottles, bottled on site through an advanced eight step filtration system,” a resort statement said.
“This initiative not only helps protect the environment but also encourages a culture of reusability among guests and staff.
“In its first year, the facility bottled an impressive 48,278 one-litre and 46,000 300ml glass bottles, drastically reducing the resort’s plastic footprint.
“This also created four full-time jobs with a fifth team member joining next week. It’s operated by a dedicated crew who carry out daily quality checks to ensure the water remains of the highest standard.”
Filtered water refill stations have been installed throughout the resort to make sustainable hydration accessible and convenient for all.
