Over the past few years, Tagaqe District School roll has increased drastically without infrastructure development to cater for the growing number.

This month the Japanese Government with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and the Tagaqe District School and Korolevu-i-Wai Yaubula Committee contributed to the construction of a new classroom block at the school in Nadroga.

The construction of the school building cost $206,000.

The Japanese Government supported the project with a funding of $187,000, the Ministry of Education gave $6000 while the school and Yaubula Committee gave a funding of $13,000.

The newly constructed building consists of three classrooms with desks and chairs.

The project, according to the Government of Japan aims to improve education and provide a better learning environment for the students.

The new building will provide a learning space for 258 students at the school.

The project replaces an old timber classroom that was destroyed in the mid 1980s.

The Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro in opening the new classroom block thanked the Japanese Government, the school management and community for their hard work and dedication to improving the education of children in Tagaqe.

He highlighted Government’s commitment to supporting education through programs such as the free education grant, the transport assistance and the $200 back-to-school support.

Mr Radrodro encouraged everyone to take care of the new facilities and continue to support the education of the children in Tagaqe.
