MORE than 230 people in 51 households in Bureiwai and Nakorotubu, Ra, now have improved access to clean and reliable water following the completion of three water projects.
The projects were funded by the Ministry of Rural Development’s High Risk Water Program at a combined cost of $117,500.
The Waibasaga Water Project at Nakorotubu was completed at a cost of $43,000 and provides improved water access to 60 people in 18 households.
At Namatadamu Settlement in Bureiwai, 79 people in 15 households now have access to clean drinking water following a $35,000 Government investment.
The Naveisividra Water Project, also in Bureiwai, was completed at a cost of $39,500 and has improved access to clean water for more than 100 people in 18 households.
Speaking at the commissioning of the projects, Rural and Maritime Development Minmister Mosese Bulitavu said investment in basic infrastructure was essential to improving the lives of people in rural and maritime communities.
“Access to clean water is fundamental to the health, dignity and wellbeing of our people,” he said.
“These projects demonstrate the Government’s commitment to ensuring that communities in rural areas are not left behind in accessing essential services.”
