IF a knockout happens, it happens!

These were the sentiments of seasoned boxer Joseph Kwadjo as he hits the home stretch this week in preparation for the supporting bout against Robin Hazelman in the Bluewater Boxing Promotion event on Saturday.

“When I train, I train for 10 rounds, I don’t train for knockouts but if it happens, it happens,” Kwadjo told this newspaper yesterday.

While the Ghanian-born boxer has won 22 out of 27 fights by way of knockout and lost one of 13 through that as well, he isn’t seeking a win in that manner this Saturday.

“So I train for 10 rounds because I’m fighting for 10 rounds so when I’m training, I prepare myself for 10 rounds but if it may be a knockout, then it’s a knockout.

“But I’m not looking for a knockout.”

Kwadjo brushed away comments of concerns regarding his age, as nine weeks of training will come down to the wire when he faces Hazelman this weekend.

“Age is a number; you look after yourself because you can still box to whatever age you feel comfortable (to you),” Kwadjo stressed.

“It doesn’t matter, it depends on how you look after yourself. You don’t involve yourself with some of the things that are going to distract you so people can say what they want to say.”

While his opponent Hazelman has been quoted in recent media reports as saying he has acquired enough experience to face Kwadjo, the latter acknowledged his capabilities instead.

“Hazelman is a good boxer and I have nothing bad to say about him.

“He can say whatever he wants to say but when he jumps in the ring, it will only be him and I in the ring,” Kwadjo said.

“We’ll find out this coming Saturday.”

The Bluewater Boxing Promotions event will take place at the Vodafone Arena.
