Hundreds farewell Tui Nawaka

Hundreds of mourners gathered at Nawaka Village in Nadi on Friday to farewell the late Tui Nawaka Ratu Tomasi Kanailagi Naevo.

Ratu Tomasi was remembered by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka who led a delegation of Cabinet ministers to pay their final respects to the late chief earlier this week.

“His passing has left us with a profound sense of grief and deep reflection,” said Mr Rabuka.

“As we gathered in the chiefly village of Nawaka, memories of the late Tui Nawaka were heavy on our mind.

“His wisdom, strength and compassion were unparalleled.

“He led his people with grace and dedication and his presence brought a sense of unity and harmony to the community.

“His advice and guidance were sought after during times of challenge and his words offered comfort and hope.

“We have lost not just a chief but a guiding light, a guardian of our traditions and a pillar of support for the people of Nawaka.”

He said the legacy left behind by Ratu Tomasi was forever etched in the annals of history of the vanua o Nawaka.

“During this difficult time, I pray that the memory of the late Momo na Tui Nawaka will live on in the hearts of his people.

“May his teachings and values continue to inspire and guide us.

“Let us find strength as we unite to mourn his passing and work together to preserve the rich heritage he cherished so dearly.”

Ratu Tomasi was installed in December, 2022, taking up the chiefly title following the passing of the late Ratu Asaeli Driu, who passed in December, 2021.
