THE Fijian Elections Office has recorded 2304 applications within the first three days of its phase one recruitment drive for election officials.
Acting Deputy Supervisor of Elections Anaseini Senimoli said the recruitment exercise, which began on Monday, April 13, would run until May 9 and was aimed at strengthening staffing ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
“From the three days we have been open, we have received 2304 applications. We are hoping that by the end of phase one, we will reach at least 18,000 applications. That is our target,” she said.
Ms Senimoli said applications were being received across four recruitment centres located in Suva, Nausori, Labasa and Lautoka, with strong early turnout reported.
“The numbers indicate strong public interest in supporting the electoral process, with both new and returning applicants showing up at centres.”
She said the recruitment phase was an important step in ensuring sufficient staffing levels for polling operations and associated election duties.
“There are outlined key eligibility requirements for individuals applying to become election officials under its ongoing recruitment drive.”
She said applicants must be registered voters, politically neutral, and possess basic literacy and numeracy skills to qualify for consideration.
“These requirements are essential due to the responsibilities election officials carry during polling operations, including counting ballot papers and verifying voter information on electoral rolls.
“As election officials, they need to be able to count ballot papers and identify names on the voter list. These are basic but essential skills.”
She said applicants must also be available for mandatory training sessions, pre-polling duties, and election day work, depending on operational needs.
“Availability during key electoral periods is a critical factor in the selection process, as the office must ensure full coverage across all polling venues.”
She urged applicants to carefully review requirements before attending recruitment centres to avoid delays.
