PACIFIC defence leaders have reassured regional partners that sensitive information shared through the newly-launched Pacific Defence Training Hub will remain strictly protected under multi-tiered security protocols.
Speaking during the conclusion of the South Pacific Defence Ministers Meeting in Nadi on Thursday, Fiji’s Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua stressed that individual nations retained full control over the data they chose to disclose.
“Information is sensitive, and the data system ensures that it is protected, and it’s for the benefit of all of its users.
Addressing potential concerns regarding military intelligence and operational security, Mr Tikoduadua said the regional hub operated using distinct classifications to manage the flow of operational material safely.
“Sharing data exists at different levels, from both unclassified to classified information, and then there are separate rules and procedures that we have to follow.”
Mr Tikoduadua stressed that safeguarding intelligence integrity remained paramount as Pacific nations expanded their defence cooperation and joint training operations.
“It will always be in our best interest to make sure that we maintain the integrity of the information that we receive from our partners for the benefit of everyone,”
The newly-established hub aims to streamline joint military exercises and strategy across member states while guaranteeing that sovereign intelligence assets are safeguarded under strict international guidelines.
