SOUTH Island United scored deep in stoppage time to edge Bula FC 1-0 in round six of the OFC Pro League in Auckland, New Zealand yesterday.
It was a cruel finish for Bula FC, who had battled strongly for most of the match, even after being reduced to 10 men late in the first half.
The first half was tight, with both teams struggling to create clear chances. Bula FC looked lively on the flanks, with Kaile Auvray using his pace to trouble the defence.
Gabiriele Matanisiga’s goal attempt was ruled as a foul and captain Roy Krishna’s attempt went over the crossbar.
Setareki Hughes was shown a red card after VAR led the referee to upgrade a yellow card for a late tackle on Rovu Boyers.
South Island United was also a man down as Oskar Van Hattum was injured in the first 10 minutes, while defender Ollie Van Rijssel had already been ruled out before the match.
The Rob Sherman coached-team struggled to take control and Bula FC showed great fight in the second half.
Josaia Sela had two good chances, along with Scott Wara and Matanisiga also denied opportunities to break the deadlock.
Just when the match looked set for a draw, South Island United found the breakthrough during added time when Lewis Partridge delivered a perfect cross and Feutz rose highest to head home the winning goal.
Bula FC will now need positive results in their remaining matches to stay in the race.
