Indonesia’s naval hospital ship KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 arrived in Fiji yesterday as part of a Pacific-wide goodwill mission aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties and providing practical support to local communities.

The visit, under the theme “Bridging Nations, Serving Humanity”, forms part of Indonesia Port Visit 2026, a mission spanning Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea from September 14 to November 12.

Fiji is the ship’s second port of call, from October 9 to 13.

The mission places a strong emphasis on health diplomacy, with Indonesian medical specialists in internal medicine, surgery, anaesthesiology and general medicine providing clinical services and engaging in professional exchanges with local health practitioners.

The program will also include social assistance, rehabilitation of public facilities, distribution of essential supplies and community environmental activities.

Ship personnel will be engaged in social work at Nakula Methodist Church in Lami today, with another session tentatively scheduled for Monday.

There will also be health services provided at Walu Bay Pier tomorrow and Monday, with capacity for 300 patients each day, including 250 general patients and 50 dental patients.

The vessel is scheduled to depart Fiji for Solomon Islands on Tuesday.
