THE McDonald’s Fijian Drua Women have received a major vote of confidence ahead of their historic Super Rugby Women’s final this Saturday at 4R Stadium at Govind Park in Ba.
Queensland Reds head coach Andrew Fraser is backing the Fijian side to win this Saturday’s decider against the NSW Waratahs.
The Drua will host their first-ever Super W home final, where another bumper crowd is expected to turn out in support of the defending champions.
Fraser, whose side was beaten 31-5 by the Drua in last weekend’s semi-final at Churchill Park, believes the home advantage and passionate Fijian supporters will make the hosts extremely difficult to beat.
“The Drua will be very hard to beat in Ba. They have a different crowd and fans, and it will be a tough one for the Australian team,” Fraser said.
He also praised Drua head coach Mike Legge for the work he has done with the team this season.
“This Drua team is very special, and Mike Legge has done a great job. I congratulate Mike on his effort for this season,” Fraser said.
The Drua will be aiming to cap off another outstanding campaign by lifting the Super Rugby Women’s title in front of their home supporters.
The McDonald’s Fijian Drua Women booked their place in the final after a dominant 31-5 victory over the Queensland Reds at Churchill Park in Lautoka last week.
The Drua scored five tries through Salaseini Railumu, Karalaini Naisewa, Atelaite Buna and captain Kolora Lomani, who crossed twice, while Varanisese Qoro added three conversions.
The Reds’ only points came from a first-half try by Charlie Brigstocke. The victory secured the Drua’s first-ever home Super W final. The final kicks off at 1.05pm.
