There are many organisations and institutions in Fiji that assist in building character, leadership qualities and competencies, human values and religious pathways, life skills, volunteering and social service in our children. I salute such organisations for such initiatives.
But if they can do the same during times such as this (school holidays) it would be more suitable.
This is because stealing study time and class time for oratories, quiz, camps and all others as mentioned above does have harmful effects on children.
Concentration is diverted and apart from some activities only for some, majority are affected as their teachers are busy preparing for such participation with selected students. What happens to the rest under their care?
I salute the teachers for dong such extras without much appreciation.
But the executives of these organisations are smart to pouch on the already organised systems to fulfil their visions and motives.
If you are truly a leader who cares for our children do something now during holidays when our students are free and basically doing nothing much as evidenced by the roaming and smoking students along footpaths at any time within the 24 hours.
My special thanks to those organisations such as the girmit council for the tabla and cultural lessons, church groups and very few others that are genuinely conducting their programs now. I do not need to state the various programs that could be carried out during such times.
Leave students alone when they are busy at school but take them on board during holiday.
Then you can say that you have fulfilled your mssion and vision.
This would be a real challenge but fulfilling. Take time to understand what this letter means and make changes to keep our children engaged during the holidays.
