Local hero Winston Hill is set to headline a stacked card at the South Pacific Boxing Promotion event on October 26 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
Featuring a high-profile fight for the IBO Asia Pacific superweight title, for Hill, this fight is about much more than just titles, rankings, or even personal glory.
It’s about representing his homeland, staying true to his passion for the sport, and inspiring the next generation of Fijian athletes.
“Personally, I don’t care about world rankings or belts,” he admits.”
“I love boxing, I love training, and I love committing myself to the struggle and the sport. That perseverance is what pushes me forward.”
“I’m up for the challenge and ready to bring big punches from the first round. There’s going to be a showcase of skill, fitness, and just boxing sweet science altogether.”
The bout will also serve as a celebration of Fijian pride and culture.
Among the highlights for Hill is the prospect of fighting in front of Sonny Bill Williams, an icon in the Pacific sporting world.
“Growing up watching him on TV, it would be pretty cool to shake his hand,” Hill said.
“For the people that will come down to watch boxing, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet someone like Sonny Bill, get their T-shirts signed, and just enjoy the whole atmosphere.”
As Hill prepares to step into the ring, his focus remains not on the bright lights or the championship belts, but on the opportunity to continue representing Fiji and bringing the sport of boxing to new heights in his homeland.
For Hill, this fight is just the next chapter in a career that continues to inspire, not just for what he’s achieved in the ring, but for how he’s carried himself outside of it.
