The Fiji Meteorological Service has lifted the heavy rain warning for most of the country, with the warning now remaining in force only for the Southern Lau Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
According to the latest weather bulletin, a shallow low-pressure system west of Fiji is continuing to move southeast away from the country, although associated cloud and rain are expected to affect parts of the group until later today.
Forecasters said southern Lau and Kadavu can expect occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms before conditions gradually ease to showers later today.
For the northern, eastern and interior parts of Fiji, occasional showers with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms are expected, with weather conditions also easing later in the day.
Elsewhere around the country, cloudy periods with some showers and isolated afternoon or evening heavy falls and thunderstorms are forecast.
The weather office said conditions are expected to gradually improve, with clearing expected from the west later today.
Despite the easing weather, authorities warned that localised heavy falls could still trigger flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Possible impacts include flooding of informal settlements, businesses and Irish crossings, causing traffic disruptions.
Surface flooding in urban areas with poor drainage remains possible, while motorists have been urged to exercise caution due to wet roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours.
A strong east to northerly wind flow is also expected to persist over Fiji waters.
The latest advisory offers some relief after days of severe weather that prompted nationwide school closures and work-from-home arrangements for public servants.
