The Fiji Meteorological Service has cancelled the heavy rain alert that was previously in force for several parts of the country.

In a special weather bulletin issued at 10am today, the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi confirmed that the alert covering the interior, southern and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Cakaudrove and southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lomaiviti Group, and Kadavu has now been lifted.

The weather office said a trough of low pressure, which had been affecting the group with cloud, showers and rain, is now lying to the east of Fiji and is gradually moving away.

Despite the improvement, occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are still expected over affected areas, including Rakiraki, Korovou, Naitasiri, Nausori, Suva, Navua, Pacific Harbour and Sigatoka.

However, conditions are forecast to gradually ease later today.
