The accused appeared before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu in the High Court in Suva.

The pretrial conference hearing for Sigatoka couple Mohammed Naushad and Nazreen Nisha Khan will take place on February 6 next year.

The two are jointly charged with the murder of an 18-year-old student while Naushad faces an additional count of criminal intimidation.

It’s alleged the couple forced the victim to ingest a chemical in a house at Maro in Sigatoka on June 30, 2022.

The matter was heard in the High Court in Lautoka yesterday where the duo were represented by Aloesi Degei, while Shahil Kumar appeared for the state.

The court was told that all pretrial conference issues were in order and that a hearing date would be set early next year.

Justice Riyaz Hamza told Ms Degei he could not call the matter earlier because of the legal vacation, but a motion could be filed by the defence if there was a need to do so.

The court was told the matter was fixed for further trial from March 17 to 28 next year.

Justice Hamza informed counsels that the couple had been remanded for more than two years.

The couple have been further remanded.
