Health minister addresses hospital space shortage issue

Update: 4:11PM THE Nadi Hospital Board of Visitors will embark on a $25,000 project in the coming weeks to help alleviate the space shortage faced by the Nadi Hospital.

During a visit to the hospital today, Health Minister Rosy Akbar said space was an issue at the hospital.

“In terms of facilities, yes there have been some discussions with the board as well because we see a part of the old hospital that has not been utilised so the board of visitors is going to embark on its renovation,” she said.

“We hope to solve the issue of space shortage which I feel is a major problem.”

Mrs Akbar said a portion of the old Nadi Hospital building would be refurbished as part of this project which would help ease space shortage.

Nadi Hospital Board of Visitors chairman, Mohammed Israr Khan said the project would take close to six weeks to complete, depending on conditions like the weather.

“Once refurbished, this will be used as the special Outpatient department ward,” he said.

Mr Khan said this would serve those patients suffering from diabetes and hypertension who came for special clinics or on appointment basis.
