Fiji National Rugby League head coach Wise Kativerata is confident the Fiji men’s and women’s 9s teams have what it takes to successfully defend the gold medals at the Pacific Games.
Kativerata said the coaches had picked a good squad and they should get the job done in the Solomon Islands.
“They got a pretty good chance. Vulaono Dakuitoga is a very experienced coach and I have full confidence in the team he picks. Asaeli Saravaki will head the women’s team in their pursuit to defend the gold medal,” Kativerata said.
“It’s a matter of playing according to the game plan for the players and they should get through the tournament.
“Expect some tough competition from New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Samoa. They are growing in the sport, and they will not be walkovers.”
The Pacific Games will begin on Sunday.
