THE members of the Ratu Kadavulevu School under-17 rugby team are enjoying themselves in Japan as they prepare for their match tomorrow.
The Coca-Cola Zero Deans under-17 champions left the country on Wednesday and are based at Oita City.
Sarah Vamarasi, who is teaching English in Japan, as part of Japanese English Teaching program, was given the honours to chaperone the team as they toured the city.
“We visited Beppu City a famous place for hot spring and for lunch we had steamed food which was new to the boys and seeing them enjoy the tour made me feel close to home,” Vamarasi said.
“I am the only one from Fiji out of the 5000 participants from all over the world to be part of the program so I was invited by the sports division to accompany them on their outing.
“They really love it here and how everything is clean and the new food and to see them all in full energy was very exciting.
“The team will visit elementary schools to meet up with the kids and teach them some rugby skills as it’s all part of their program.”
For 26-year-old Vamarasi she hopes more secondary schools in Fiji can send in their rugby teams to get more exposure on international level of competition.
The team will return home on Sunday.
