Team Guam is eagerly anticipating their participation in the 2026 Oceania Swimming Championships at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva.
With a small team of three swimmers—two males and one female—head coach Darrick Bollinger expressed excitement about competing against the region’s top swimmers.
“We’re just looking to swim fast. We’re not using this event to qualify for anything specific, but it’s a great opportunity for them to race against strong competition from other swimmers around the region. That’s really what we’re aiming for,” he explained.
Preparation for the championships has not been without challenges, as the team had to overcome some difficulties leading up to the competition.
“We faced some setbacks, including a storm that passed through the region just before the event, which kept us out of the pool for about a week and a half,” Bollinger said.
“But I think we’ll be okay. We’ve managed to get back into the pool, and the swimmers are feeling good right now, so we’re hopeful that it will be enough.”
Bollinger anticipates a highly competitive event as the best in the region converge for regional supremacy, providing valuable exposure for his swimmers as they build their international careers.
The Oceania Swimming Championships began yesterday with the 10km Open Water event and will continue today at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva.
Warm-ups are scheduled from 8:15 am to 9:45 am, with the first events commencing at 10am.
