Great sportsmanship

THAT was exhausting. I’m absolutely stoked! Heart pounding like crazy and as a fan I’m so relieved and happy that the mighty All Blacks made it into the grand final of the Rugby World Cup yet again. The early morning wake-up call for the big game was worth it.

But to be honest my best moment was not the victory, but it was Sonny Bill William’s benevolence exhibited toward South African Jesse Kriel after the final whistle. SBW first thought after that nail-biting game was not the grand final next week but for the Springboks. He could have opted to celebrate the victory with his teammates at the ground but he headed for the young distraught Springbok that deteriorated against the goalpost when the final whistle blew.

His words after the game in an interview was very touching, “It was 20-18. It could have gone either way … we could have been sitting on the ground there knowing that four years of hard work was over … You can’t really console them, you can’t say things to make them happy, but you just have to say it could have been us.”

So true the words of Etienne Feyder, “rugby is a hooligan’s game played by gentlemen”.

Great sportsmanship Sonny Bill! All the best in the grand-final.

Go mighty All Blacks!
